unstaged designs

Mary Stuart
By Friedrich Schiller
I approached the design for this play by looking at original portraits of Queen Elizabeth and Mary, Queen of Scots as well as portraits of other nobility and royalty from the period. I combined these period silhouettes with a deep, jewel-toned palette and ornately textured and patterned textiles to create a rich, dark world for Schiller's disturbing drama about fractured royalty in Elizabethan England.
